Do I need to appear at every court date?

Not always. In Oregon, if you're facing a misdemeanor charge, your attorney can often appear in court on your behalf—unless the judge specifically requires your presence.
This is permitted under ORS 135.045, which allows attorney representation in misdemeanor cases unless the court orders otherwise.
For felony charges, you may be excused from certain procedural hearings if three conditions are met:
  • You and your attorney agree it's appropriate,
  • The prosecutor has no objection, and
  • The judge gives permission.
I'll always inform you in advance whether you need to attend.
Whenever possible, we will work to minimize how court dates affect your daily life—while fully protecting your rights and your case.
