General Conditions of Probation in Oregon
Under ORS 137.540, probationers in Oregon must comply with several general conditions (some, not all are listed below):
Basic Requirements
- Obey all laws, municipal, county, state and federal, and in circumstances in which state and federal law conflict, obey state law
- Pay fees, fines and restitution as ordered
- Report as required to probation officer
- Remain in Oregon unless permitted to leave
- Find and maintain employment or approved program
- Permit the parole and probation officer to visit the probationer or the probationer’s work site or residence and to conduct a walk-through of the common areas and of the rooms in the residence occupied by or under the control of the probationer
- Participate in a substance use evaluation as directed by the supervising officer and follow the recommendations of the evaluator if there are reasonable grounds to believe there is a history of substance use
Prohibited Activities
- No possession of weapons
- No use or possession of controlled substances, unless prescribed
- No changing residence without prior approval
Additional Requirements
- Submit to search of person, vehicle or premises upon request if the probation officer has reasonable grounds to believe that evidence exists of a probation violation
- Participate in treatment programs as directed
- Submit to drug/alcohol testing when requested
