What are the general conditions of probation in Oregon?

General Conditions of Probation in Oregon

Under ORS 137.540, probationers in Oregon must comply with several general conditions (some, not all are listed below):

Basic Requirements

  • Obey all laws, municipal, county, state and federal, and in circumstances in which state and federal law conflict, obey state law
  • Pay fees, fines and restitution as ordered
  • Report as required to probation officer
  • Remain in Oregon unless permitted to leave
  • Find and maintain employment or approved program
  • Permit the parole and probation officer to visit the probationer or the probationer’s work site or residence and to conduct a walk-through of the common areas and of the rooms in the residence occupied by or under the control of the probationer
  • Participate in a substance use evaluation as directed by the supervising officer and follow the recommendations of the evaluator if there are reasonable grounds to believe there is a history of substance use

Prohibited Activities

  • No possession of weapons
  • No use or possession of controlled substances, unless prescribed
  • No changing residence without prior approval

Additional Requirements

  • Submit to search of person, vehicle or premises upon request if the probation officer has reasonable grounds to believe that evidence exists of a probation violation
  • Participate in treatment programs as directed
  • Submit to drug/alcohol testing when requested
